Shop valves by type
Ball valves are the go-to for quick quarter-turn on/off isolation, and we split them into brass, stainless, PVC and CPVC, 3-way, mini, and lead-free lines. Check valves stop backflow automatically. Gate valves give full-bore isolation on water and larger lines. Butterfly valves handle large-diameter flow in a compact body. Globe and needle valves are built for throttling and fine flow control, and PVC valves cover chemical and low-pressure water service. Need parts? See valve handles and accessories.
How to choose the right valve
For simple on/off isolation, use a ball valve for fast quarter-turn service or a gate valve where you want full unrestricted bore and infrequent operation. For throttling or precise flow adjustment, choose a globe or needle valve, since ball and gate valves are not made to sit partly open. To prevent reverse flow and protect a pump, use a check valve, which acts automatically with no handle. On large water, HVAC, or fire lines, butterfly and wafer-style valves save weight and space.
Choosing a material
Brass suits water, air, oil, and compatible gas at moderate pressures. 316 stainless resists chlorine, acids, and corrosive process media that attack brass. PVC and CPVC are the low-cost choice for chemical dosing and low-pressure water. Ductile iron covers large-diameter municipal water and fire-protection duty. If lead-free compliance matters for potable water, start with the lead-free valves collection.
Common questions
Ball valve or gate valve for shutoff?
A ball valve opens and closes in a quarter turn and seals tightly, which makes it the better everyday isolation valve. A gate valve offers a full unobstructed bore with almost no pressure drop, which suits large water mains and lines that stay open most of the time.
Which valve stops backflow?
A check valve. It opens under forward flow and closes automatically against reverse flow, with no operator action. Browse the full range in check valves.
