Brass ball valves are the general-service choice for water, oil, gas and HVAC lines (600 WOG through 2 in.; 400 WOG in 3 and 4 in., per the manufacturer). 316 stainless steel and PVC/CPVC ball valves are selected where brass is not suitable for the media or temperature. Mini ball valves — in brass or 316 SS — serve tight-space shutoff needs in instrument panels, metering systems, and control skids. Media suitability depends on the specific fluid, concentration, temperature, pressure and seat/seal materials — tell us your service conditions and we will confirm suitability with the manufacturer.
Certifications Available
Certification marks vary by model and are manufacturer designations. Midland's catalog marks its brass full-port line (940171–940181) UL 842/258/125 and FM, its male × female line (948170–948177) UL 842/258, and its 943201 gas valve CSA/AGA 3.88 for 5 psig gas. Apex has not independently verified listing certificates or file numbers for any of these models — ask us for the manufacturer's documentation before specifying a valve for gas or code-governed service. Locking-handle variants accept a padlock for lockout/tagout programs.

What is the difference between a full-port and standard-port ball valve?
A full-port (full-bore) ball valve has a ball opening that matches the pipe's inside diameter, so flow passes straight through with virtually no restriction or pressure drop. A standard-port valve uses a smaller ball opening — typically one pipe size down — which reduces cost and valve size but creates slightly higher pressure drop. Full-port valves are preferred wherever flow rate, pigging, or in-line cleaning matters; standard-port valves work fine for most isolation applications where pressure drop is not critical.
Which ball valve material is right for my application?
Brass is the most cost-effective choice for general water, air, oil and gas service within its printed rating. 316 stainless steel or PVC/CPVC are selected where brass is not suitable for the media, temperature or pressure. What does 600 WOG mean on a ball valve?
WOG stands for Water, Oil, Gas — the three fluid categories the valve is rated for. A 600 WOG rating means the valve is rated to 600 PSI working pressure for cold water, oil, and gas service at ambient temperature.
