Repair or Replace? The Quick Read

- Small brass or PVC inline check → replace. Sourcing and reassembling individual seat parts on a small valve usually costs about what a new one does.

Start With What You're Actually Seeing
Before reaching for a part number, get three answers: How much is passing back through — a slow weep, a steady drip, or real backflow? Did it start gradually or suddenly? And has anything changed upstream recently — a new chemical feed, a pipe repair, a change in flow pattern? Sudden Leak Right After an Install or Nearby Repair (Debris)

Valve Has Leaked Since Day One (Misapplication)
Problem: the leak has been there since the valve was first installed — it never sealed reliably, even new.

When to Re-Seat vs. When to Replace
The math is different depending on the valve. For the larger ductile iron swing checks — the 9620-series AWWA C508 valves common in distribution and pump-station service — a rebuild is usually the right call: the body is the expensive part, and the wear items are serviceable.
