Cushioned vs. Rigid Mounting Clamps
Rigid metal mounting clamps are the simplest and lowest-cost option for securing rigid pipe and conduit to frames. Cushioned (rubber-lined or plastic-lined) clamps absorb vibration and prevent galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals — required in applications where pipe vibration would transmit noise or cause fatigue cracking at the clamp contact point. Cushioned clamps are standard in hydraulic line installations, engine room piping, and anywhere vibration isolation is a design requirement.
Spacing Reference
As a general guide, support horizontal pipe runs at intervals of 4–6 ft for 1/2 in.–1 in. pipe, and 6–8 ft for larger pipe, depending on material and fluid weight. Consult your applicable pipe support standard (ASME B31, MSS SP-69) for engineered installations.
