Flareless fittings (also called bite-type or cutting-ring fittings) create a leak-tight tube connection without flaring the tube end — a ferrule or cutting ring bites into the tube OD as the nut is tightened, creating a metal-to-metal seal. Unlike compression fittings (which use a soft ferrule that compresses around the tube) or flare fittings (which require tube deformation with a flaring tool), flareless fittings grip the tube wall by mechanical deformation of the cutting ring, making them suitable for heavier-wall steel and stainless tubing where soft-ferrule compression fittings are not rated.

Flareless fittings are the standard in hydraulic instrumentation lines, fuel injection systems, high-pressure control systems, and industrial process tubing where high-pressure ratings and vibration resistance are required without the added step of tube flaring.
Flareless vs. Compression vs. Flare
Compression fittings use a soft ferrule best suited to copper, aluminum, and light-wall plastic tubing. Flare fittings require a tube-end flare and are standard in refrigeration and gas service. Flareless (bite-type) fittings work on thick-wall steel, stainless, and hydraulic tubing without any tube preparation beyond a clean square cut. For the standard in-line refrigeration and gas application, see our SAE 45° flare fittings.
