The 1/2 in. Brass NPSM Female Long Shank is a brass garden hose (GHT) fitting. NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical) shanks are the threaded inserts used inside swivel hose couplings — the shank threads into the coupling body and the barbed or serrated end grips the hose ID. Long and short shank lengths accommodate different hose wall thicknesses. Garden hose thread (GHT) is a straight 3/4 in., 11.5 TPI thread sealed by a rubber washer — not the tapered thread seal of NPT. GHT and NPT are not interchangeable and will cross-thread if mixed.
