Garden Hose Fittings

Garden hose fittings use GHT (Garden Hose Thread) — a 3/4 in. diameter, 11.5 TPI straight thread with a rubber washer seal — the universal standard for residential outdoor water connections in the U.S. GHT is not compatible with NPT pipe threads despite the similar size; GHT is straight-threaded and seals on a rubber washer, while NPT is tapered and seals on thread engagement. Mixing the two will result in a cross-threaded, leaking connection.
