Bulkhead Fittings

Bulkhead fittings provide a leak-tight, through-wall fluid connection that allows piping or tubing to pass through tank walls, enclosures, panel boards, and equipment housings without leaking. A threaded body passes through a drilled hole in the wall, and a locknut and gasket on each side of the wall compress to form a pressure-rated, watertight seal around the opening. Bulkhead fittings eliminate the need to weld or braze connections into tank walls and can be installed with only a wrench.

Apex Flow Solutions stocks nylon and brass bulkhead fittings in both hose barb and NPT threaded port configurations — covering chemical dosing tanks, water treatment equipment, holding tanks, instrument enclosures, and panel board plumbing in sizes from 1/4 in. through 3/4 in.

Selecting Body Material

Nylon bulkhead fittings resist most water treatment chemicals, dilute acids, and chlorinated solutions — the standard choice for chemical dosing tanks, day tanks, and plastic enclosures. Brass bulkhead fittings are specified for metal enclosures, hydraulic reservoirs, and applications requiring higher pressure ratings than nylon allows. For highly corrosive chemicals (concentrated acids, strong oxidizers), verify compatibility with our chemical resistance tables before ordering.

Installation Notes

Drill the panel hole to match the fitting's panel hole diameter specification. Thread the fitting body through the hole, apply the locknut and gaskets on each side, and tighten to snug — do not over-torque nylon fittings. For tank walls thicker than 1/4 in., confirm the fitting thread engagement length is sufficient for a full locknut thread.
